Travelling on a budget from Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ)? Two options keep costs down: a hotel shuttle if your accommodation offers one, and the Halifax Transit public bus. The airport is about 35 km — a 30–40 minute drive — from downtown Halifax, and there is no train or metro link.
Hotel shuttles

Some hotels arrange an airport shuttle for their guests, either complimentary or for a set fee, most often the properties closest to the terminal. It is the easiest budget-friendly option because it takes you straight to your accommodation. Shuttles are not automatic, though — confirm the service and timing when you book your room, and let the hotel know your flight details so a driver can meet you.
The Halifax Transit public bus
Halifax Transit runs a public bus between the airport and the city, commonly the airport route, the 320. It is the cheapest way to travel, but the frequency is limited, especially in the evenings and at weekends, and there is little space for large suitcases. It suits flexible, light-packing travellers more than those arriving late with lots of luggage.
| Option | Cost | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel shuttle | Free or low, set fee | Guests of participating hotels — door-to-door |
| Halifax Transit bus | Cheapest | Budget, light-packing travellers; limited frequency |
Is the bus right for you?
- Choose the bus if: you want the lowest fare, are travelling light, and your timing is flexible.
- Choose a taxi or transfer if: you have heavy luggage, are arriving after dark, or are travelling as a group — see our airport taxis and private transfers.
- Have your fare ready: the currency is the Canadian dollar (CAD); check the current fare and payment method for the Halifax Transit bus before you travel.
Bus routes, fares and timetables can change, so check the current Halifax Transit schedule locally or with your hotel close to your travel date. For all the ways into town side by side, see our guide to getting from the airport to downtown.
